With the 4th of July coming up this weekend, I put together a roundup of some of my favorite patriotic recipes. They’re all gluten-free, they’re all vegan, and they’re all a healthy choice for a summer barbecue (even the margaritas).
The Vegan Peanut Butter Dip above is the perfect fruit dip dessert for the Fourth of July. If you have time, pick up some extra strawberries and blueberries and get creative with your patriotic food designs!
This Berry Quinoa Salad with Almond Butter Dressing is easily transportable and super simple to make. I like to wait to add the almond butter dressing until right before serving.
Detox Lemonade is a great way to hydrate and the perfect non-alcoholic drink to sip poolside.
If you are looking to spice things up with an adult beverage, my Sugar-Free Watermelon Margarita is the way to go. It yields a much cleaner cocktail then sweetening your drink with agave or using pre-made margarita mix. Just be sure to chop and freeze some watermelon prior to your party day.
I love this simple Cherry Basil Quinoa – it’s a snap to put together and the longer it marinates, the better it tastes (i.e., make this guy a day or two in advance of your party).
On to the savory recipes, this Trader Joe’s Chipotle Peach Salsa dupe is one of my favorites.
Another great side to have at parties is hummus. My Vegan Queso Hummus is a different take on standard garlic-based hummus and adds some spice to your food spread.
A stand-out main dish dip situation, this Vegan Seven Layer Taco Dip is a great option for this weekend (just keep refrigerated prior to the party). Black beans, vegan queso hummus, guac, vegan sour cream…… it’s definitely a crowd-pleaser.
If you’re looking for a substantial vegan alternative to heavier grilled fare like burgers and hot dogs, my Vegan Lobster Roll is a great stand-in. Get gluten-free vegan buns to serve them on.
Getting back to the sweeter side of things, this Vegan Coconut Cherry Ice Cream is a great way to indulge in a patritotic-themed vegan dessert. (Add some blueberries to the mix to get in your blue!)
For a dessert that may be just as pretty as it is tasty, try these Patriotic Berry Popsicles. They are probably the cutest, most refreshing way to end your 4th of July meal.
