I go back and forth between drinking coffee and cycling off of caffeine (I drink this latte when I’m taking a break), but you better believe when I am drinking coffee- I’m drinking coffee with added adaptogenic benefits!
Coffee is this beautiful thing that I think most of us have some sort of relationship with. It’s sacred you know?
Ok, maybe that’s going too far, but I know how important that first cup of coffee moment can be in the morning.
So when you’re able to take that moment, and add something special for your body- like adaptogenic mushrooms- that’s a pretty freaking cool thing. It’s like multi-tasking, you know?
Lately, I’ve been loving this Happy Start blend from Winged. It’s a mix of adaptogens and special plant ingredients that pack a punch of nutritional benefits for your morning latte.
I go into all the details in my latest YouTube video, which is about creating a morning routine for health, happiness, and productivity. But, morning routine aside, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty deets about how to make a pumped-up latte that’s packed with lots adaptogenic benefits.
This latte can help to:
- balance hormones
- reduce stress
- increase focus
- improve mood
And it all starts with the Winged Happy Start Mix.
Winged Women’s Wellness reached out to collaborate on a YouTube video, and I couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to this company and their women’s wellness blends. They have an attention to quality that is so important when shopping for any kind of food product.
Organic is something that is very important to me and something I look for in most of what I buy- so I am pysched to see it so front and center in their products.
Also a side note about Winged- they are a female-founded business that is rooted in the idea that when a woman feels good, she is unstoppable. And I couldn’t agree with that more.
That’s why becoming the healthiest, happiest version of ourselves is so key to creating the life that we dream of creating.
So back to Winged. The quality of their blends is on point, organic, and has such an attention to detail. Seriously, the blend of things they have in their morning Happy Start mix is so thoughtful, and pretty much covers all the bases in one mix. And what’s cool about the brand is that they have a lot of different formulas that focus on various trouble spots like stress, sleep, mood and skin with healing ingredients like nootropics, adaptogens and botanicals.
But I’m most excited about their Happy Start Mix, since morning beverages can be such an important part of the morning routine.
This mix is basically like a happy, brain-boosting, good-vibe, magic addition for your drink. I’ve been adding it to my coffee, but you can also be adding this to really anything- even your morning smoothie.
I like to keep it right next to my little coffee station so it’s there in the morning and I’m not using any of my mental energy to remember these health things first thing. It’s there and ready for me when I need it.
Winged Women’s Wellness Happy Start Mix
This mix has A LOT of (organic!) goodness. Including:
Ashwagandha
I’ve talked about this powerhouse before in my Nighttime Wellness Routine video because it’s that good. Ashwagandha is said to help to reduce stress and cortisol levels which is pretty ideal during the workday. I find that it actually helps to balance the caffeine out too.
Maca Root
The maca in the blend is one of my favorite adaptogens because I like to think of it as the adaptogen of energy. It is also said to help improve memory and learning too!
Lion’s Mane Mushroom
One of my favorite mushrooms of all time- Lion’s Mane can help to soothe anxiety and promote mental clarity. It can also help to boost cognitive function. So it’s pretty freaking ideal for the morning.
If you want to dive deeper into the magic of Lion’s Mane, this post is for you.
Reishi Mushroom
This mix is just packed with magical benefits from mushrooms! Reishi mushroom is a fantastic adaptogenic mushroom that is said to help to boost the strength of our immune system.
Our hormones also get some love from the Happy Start mix. When we have big hormone fluctuations or neurotransmitter imbalances, we can feel like we’re on an emotional rollercoaster. Which is definitely not ideal when we’re trying to focus on our work and building our dreams during the day.
Some of the hormone-balancing ingredients include:
Shatavari
Shatavari (which is actually is a member of the asparagus family), is an adaptogenic herb that can have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging benefits.
Lemon Balm
Lemon Balm is this lemon-scented herb that is kind of like mint. A 2004 study found that lemon balm helped eased the negative mood effects of lab-induced psychological stress. It’s can also help to reduce anxiety and can even boost cognitive function.
Chaste Tree Berry Extract
This herb has been used to treat PMS, infertility, acne, and menopause. And, along with the Shatavari and Lemon Balm, can support balancing our hormones and leveling out the up and downs that can happen throughout our menstrual cycle.
N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine
Lastly, the Happy Start mix has L-Tyrosine, an amino acid, which can help to support thyroid function and dopamine production. Tyrosine is often used to improve alertness, attention, and focus. And it produces important brain chemicals that can help nerve cells with communication and can help to regulate our mood.
So let’s get to the recipe!
Adaptogenic Mushroom Latte
Ingredients
- 1 cup coffee (I love making organic coffee in a french press)
- 1 scoop Winged Happy Start mushroom blend
- 1/2 cup plant milk (oat milk froths really well!)
Instructions
- Prep your coffee. I like to make a french press, but you could make any kind- espresso, instant, or a pot of coffee. Pour into your favorite mug.
- Froth the plant milk. I either use a countertop or a handheld frother, but you could also froth the milk by hand by heating it in a saucepan and whisking vigorously with a whisk.
- Add a scoop of the Winged Happy Start mix to your coffee, and stir with a fork until combined.
- Pour in your frothed milk.
