I’m having a recipe countdown to the Fourth of July this week; yesterday I had quinoa and today we’re having detox lemonade. I usually stay away from lemonade at parties or in restaurants due to the high sugar content. I still love the stuff though. Can we drink it without the guilt? Yes!
This metabolism-boosting drink is hydrating and helps to curb cravings. It is also alkalizing, which helps to keep our body’s PH levels in check, aiding in healthy digestion, higher energy levels, and increased mental acuity. Plus, it tastes awesome.
If you plan on making this for guests this weekend, you can double the recipe below. To speed up the juicing process, you can use a juicer for the lemons. Enjoy detoxers!
- 4 cups filtered water
- juice of 4 lemons
- 2-3 tsp maple syrup (depending on sweetness preference)
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (more or less depending on preference)
- Mix water, lemon juice, and maple syrup in large pitcher.
- Add cayenne pepper.
- Add ice and lemon slices (if desired).
I become somewhat hooked on lemonade during the summer, partly because I come from a family with many diabetics so I avoid fruit juice and am teetotal. I like the idea of using agave for mellow sweetness and cutting the sugar out x
I hear you Deena- lemonade is the absolute best in the summer! This version is much less sweet- but so good- it tastes fresh instead of processed. If you’re not into the spice, you can omit the cayenne too.
I’m anxious to taste this. I too love lemonade.
Let me know what you think!
