Happy weekend Lovelies. I hope you had a fantastic Christmas! If you celebrated, you may have some leftovers posted up in the fridge now. At my house, there’s usually always cranberry sauce hanging around for days (if not weeks). Don’t throw away that sauce! It’s packed with heart healthy compounds that you can incorporate into a tasty Cranberry Smoothie.
Cranberries contain high blood pressure-decreasing antioxidants and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients that both work to help with heart health. The phytonutrients in cranberries prevent plaque buildup in our artery walls, which helps to decrease risk for atherosclerosis. In other words, don’t throw out your mom’s homemade cranberry sauce, throw it in a smoothie with a few other ingredients and enjoy the health benefits.
(Lovely Side Note: If your cranberry sauce is laden with white sugar, it may be best to forgo this morning jump start smoothie. Nothing is worse than a mid-morning sugar crash. I made my cranberry sauce with a little bit of maple syrup and left white sugar out of the equation.)
- ¼ - ½ cup cranberry sauce
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk
- 1 tsp maca (optional- great for a hit of morning energy)
- Add all ingredients to a blender.
- Blend until completely pureed.
A smoothie outake…..
